November 15, 2006 – Sapient Team, including Next Century, wins CEOss contract with the Marine Corps
Sapient announced today that it was awarded United States Marine Corps Commercial Enterprise Omnibus Support Services (CEOss) contract. CEOss is a contracting vehicle that the Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) uses to deliver service contracts to Navy and Marine Corps commands in service of the operating forces. This award establishes Sapient as a prime vendor in the Engineering and Scientific (ES) domain, one of four competency-based domains within the CEOss model, offering support to the Marine Corps in such areas as Enterprise IT Planning, Information Assurance, and Joint Program Initiatives. Next Century was one of eight companies selected by Sapient for their team.
November 9, 2006 – Next Century wins another Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Contract with the Army Research Lab
Next Century received a Phase I SBIR contract with the U.S. Army’s Research Lab in White Sands, New Mexico to research and demonstrate the feasibility of displaying toxic dispersion plumes on PDAs. The project, dubbed “Toxic Observations and Response Aid (TORA),” will give warfighters the ability to note observations about toxic dispersements in the battlefield environment and, with the aid of weather models, predict the dispersion of the toxic cloud. The warfighter would then be able to share this dispersion prediction with other warfighters and take necessary precautionary actions. During the Phase I contract, Next Century will develop a prototype of the system for evaluation by the Army.
December 6, 2005 - NLM's WebWISER
is now available on the Internet
A web version of the National Library of Medicine's WISER is now available (http://webwiser.nlm.nih.gov/).
WebWISER provides the WISER functionality via the Internet, without downloading of software or data to the desktop. It has a consistent look and feel of the WISER for Windows desktops/laptops and PDAs and can be included in a Web-based learning program for emergency responders. WebWISER supports web browsers for both PCs and PDAs, including BlackBerry.

August 1, 2005 - mQuit™ Released for Clinical Trials
PICS of Reston, VA has announced that the mQuit smoking cessation product has begun clinical trials. mQuit was developed by Next Century for PICS and operates on Java-enabled cell phones. mQuit is based on PICS’ existing LifeSign™ products and patented algorithms that help smokers kick the habit. mQuit operates in two phases; in phase 1, which lasts for one week, it monitors the users smoking habits. In phase 2, which lasts up to 4 weeks, mQuit gently guides the smoker through a gradual cessation process, addressing both the behavioral and addictive components of smoking. mQuit reports a smokers progress to a central server using the cellular system. In addition to mQuit being an easy to use application on that runs on cell phones that any smoker can use, the great advantage of mQuit is that it allows collection of statistics about the efficacy of the product in real time, and allows for communication tailored to the individual smoker with positive feedback and encouragement.
July 26, 2005: Next Century Renews the Partner Agreement with the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC) of Annapolis, MD
Next Century is pleased to announce the renewal it’s Partner Agreement with the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC) for a second year. The Next Century and CIC partnership has proven to be very effective in bringing together innovative technology start-up companies in order to meet the critical needs for high technology based solutions for government customers.
The CIC is a public-private partnership initiated by the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation and is America’s first business accelerator focused on homeland and national security. The Center brings together its member companies – start ups with innovative technologies -- with its partners -- large enterprises with requirements for security-related high technology. CIC member companies specialize in informatics, knowledge discovery, visualization, information assurance, homeland security, human capital development, and other technology areas.
As a partner, Next Century will continue working with startup companies in the CIC, giving them advice on business operations, their technology development efforts, introducing them to potential clients and teaming with them where joint development efforts are required.
July 18, 2005: Next Century Signs Teaming Agreement with Harbinger Technologies Group, Inc.
Next Century is pleased to announce the signing of a Teaming Agreement with Harbinger Technologies Group of Annapolis, MD.
Harbinger Technologies Group, Inc., a firm comprised of former U.S. intelligence officers, federal law enforcement agents, linguists, and software engineers, has developed a sophisticated, patent-pending solution known as Foxhound TM, which is designed to remedy the transliteration and link-analysis problem inherent in counterterrorism investigations. The Foxhound TM software recently received high marks on a government test for accuracy.
Under the Teaming Agreement, Next Century will provide overall program management and support services to integrate the Foxhound TM software into a customer’s computer systems and networks.
June 1, 2005 - Next Century Awarded Contract to Support USSOCOM’s JCAF Conformance Initiative
Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) of Atlanta has issued a subcontract to Next Century to join them in working with SPAWAR Systems Center Charleston on the JCAF Conformance Initiative (JCI). The purpose of the JCI is to enhance and extend USSOCOM’s Joint Component Architecture and Framework (JCAF) in ways that will better define, simplify, and facilitate the process by which 3rd-party hardware and software components achieve JCAF conformance. As part of this initiative, Next Century will be integrating its well-received geospatial user interface for the Threat Warning Software (TWS) into the Ground SIGINT Kit (GSK). The GSK system is the ground variant of the Joint Threat Warning System (JTWS) which is one of the primary applications currently built and deployed using JCAF.
February 1, 2005: PICS, Inc. Award Cell-Phone-Based Smoking Cessation Application Development to Next Century
PICS of Reston, VA has awarded a contract to Next Century to develop a unique application for cell phones; mQuit™, a program that helps individuals quit smoking. Based on its successful LifeSign™ smoking cessation product and patented algorithms, PICS is targeting the ubiquitous cell phone market. While LifeSign was a standalone product, mQuit will be able to use the cellular communications network to aid the smoker. mQuit will report the smoker’s progress to a central server using the cellular system. a Phase II SBIR Contract for Portraying Uncertainty in Battlefield
Weather Situational Awareness
Following a highly successful Phase I SBIR initiative,
the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) has sole-selected Next
Century for a Phase II SBIR award from among five competing
Phase I SBIR companies. The system resulting from Next Century’s
Phase II effort will provide a highly innovative solution
that effectively incorporates the critical dimension of forecast
uncertainty into a decision aid user interface that takes
predicted weather conditions into account for battlefield
planning purposes. Next Century has teamed with Marcus Weather
Inc. and ZedX to generate the forecast uncertainty data needed
to support this effort. Marcus Weather is a Minneapolis-based
small business with extensive expertise in leveraging today’s
weather, communications, and computer technology to develop
effective solutions for weather-sensitive businesses. ZedX
is an information technology company that specializes in the
development of weather-dependent, decision-support products
for industry.

January 19, 2005: PocketPC version of WISER
(Wireless Information Systems for Emergency Responders) Released
The operational version of WISER is now available
for the Windows Mobile PocketPC platform. Developed by Next
Century under contract to the National
Library of Medicine, WISER is a mobile application now
available on the Palm and Pocket
PC platforms designed to assist first responders
in hazardous material incidents. WISER provides a wide range
of information on hazardous substances, including chemical
identification support, physical characteristics, suppression,
protective equipment, medical treatment, environmental, and

December 6, 2004: Next Century becomes
a Sustaining Partner of the Chesapeake
Innovation Center (CIC) of Annapolis, MD
Today, Next Century joined the ranks of Arinc,
Bearing Point, and Northrop Grumman in becoming a Sustaining
Partner in the Chesapeake Innovation Center. A public-private
partnership initiated by the Anne Arundel Economic Development
Corporation, the CIC is America’s first business accelerator
focused on homeland and national security. The Center brings
together its member companies – start ups with innovative
technologies -- with its partners -- large enterprises with
requirements for security-related high technology. CIC member
companies produce everything from an anthrax treatment to
software that replaces the computer password.

Process and Tools Training Support
Duratek, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRTK), a leading radioactive
waste management firm headquartered in Columbia, Maryland,
has again selected Next Century to further assist with the
development of improved project management processes and training.
This work dovetails with a previous engagement and focuses
on developing a Duratek project management training program
that will be rolled out enterprise wide in 2004.
Duratek and its wholly owned subsidiaries provide
waste treatment solutions for radioactive, hazardous, mixed
(intermingled radioactive and hazardous) and other wastes.
The Company's proprietary technologies include vitrification,
incineration, compaction, metal decontamination, and liquid
waste treatment used independently or in tandem to process
its customers' waste for long-term storage and disposal. The
Company's operations are organized into three primary segments:
commercial processing and disposal, federal services and commercial

an innovative system for Portraying Uncertainty in Battlefield
Weather Situational Awareness. The system will help quantify
uncertainty in disparate weather forecasts and present this
information to users in highly intuitive ways that facilitate
at-a-glance analysis and rapid decision making. Next Century
has teamed with Marcus Weather Inc. for this effort. Marcus
Weather is a Minneapolis-based small business with extensive
expertise in leveraging today’s weather, communications,
and computer technology to develop effective solutions for
weather-sensitive businesses.
October 23, 2003 – CACI Team, including Next Century
Corporation, wins a seven-year, $132M contract with U.S. Army’s
Night Vision Laboratory
CACI was awarded one of two contracts to provide technology services
to the Army’s
Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD).
Under this contract, CACI and its team of subcontractors that
includes Next Century will provide a broad range of technology
research and development services.
October 2, 2003 - Next
Century Awarded Contract by PICS to Build the Medical Monitoring
Field Evaluation System (MMFES) Desktop Application
PICS of Reston, Virginia has awarded a contract to Next Century
to develop the desktop application for a Medical Monitoring
Field Evaluation System (MMFES). The system enables researchers
to interactively define and schedule automated surveys to
be administered to subjects via a handheld Palm device. Key
members of the PICS and Next Century teams have worked closely
together on numerous projects in the past and therefore view
this contract as the continuation of a long-term, highly productive
working relationship.

Next Century Awarded Phase II SBIR Contract with the U.S.
Special Operations Command
Following successful completion of its Phase I SBIR effort
for USSOCOM, Next Century has been awarded a Phase II SBIR
contract for developing the first deployable version of an
innovative Threat Warning System for front-line warfighters.
The system integrates leading-edge mobile devices, body-worn
antennae, and receiver technologies. Next Century has teamed
with the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) of San Antonio,
TX on this effort. Four teams competed during the Phase I
activity and the Next Century team received the sole Phase
II award based on their innovative concepts and the working
prototype that they delivered upon completion of Phase I.
June 18, 2003 - WISER
Operational Version to be Developed
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has tasked
Next Century to increase the number of chemicals supported
in the initial version of the Wireless Information System
for Emergency Responders (WISER). When completed later this
year, WISER will contain ~ 400 of the most critical chemicals
encountered by First Responders.
Under contract with NLM, Next Century has been
designing and developing WISER, a mobile application that
helps first responders at the scene of chemical, biological,
or nuclear incidents to identify initial response actions.
These actions include identifying protective equipment, medical
treatment for victims, protective zones, containment and cleanup
approaches, etc. The information source is NLM's Hazardous
Substances Data Bank (HSDB), a comprehensive, authoritative
repository of critical substance information.
June 1, 2003 - WISER Debut at IAFC Conference
Next Century joined with the National Library
of Medicine (NLM) to present the Wireless Information System
for Emergency Responders (WISER) at the International Association
of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) conference held in Hunt Valley, MD,
on May 29, 30, and 31. At the conference, Next Century introduced
a PalmOS-based prototype of WISER and “beamed”
it to first responders for evaluation and feedback. Initial
feedback from first responders has been very positive.

Long-range IT Strategy for the Department of the Interior,
Minerals Management Service
The following is an excerpt from the March 17,
2003, internal memo issued by Director R. M. “Johnnie”
Burton (U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management
Service [MMS]) :
“In October 2002, the MMS awarded a contract
to the Next Century Corporation to conduct a study of our
Information Technology (IT) organization. The objective of
the study was to assess our IT organizational structure and
develop an IT strategic plan that would create a highly competitive
IT organization for the next 20 years. Next Century conducted
numerous interviews with IT managers, line of business managers,
and external stakeholders to assess our IT structure and direction.
Next Century also analyzed the existing MMS documentation,
reviewed comparable organizations and best practices, and
then, based upon their extensive background and experience,
made recommendations to the MMS as to how to best align our
resources to become a high-performing IT organization.”
Mr. Bob Brown, MMS's Associate Director for Administration
and Budget, has been designated the CIO of MMS by Director
Burton. In assessing Next Century's contribution and capabilities,

Extends Contract to Develop First Responder Mobile Application
Next Century will continue to develop a prototype
application for first responders arriving at the scene of
a chemical, biological or nuclear incident. Next Century is
working closely with first responders from Fairfax County,
Virginia and Baltimore County, Maryland to refine this important
decision support system.
December 16, 2002 - Next Century joins
SES Team on NSA’s Set-Aside Small Business Program (NSETS)
Next Century has earned a position on the Scientific
& Engineering Solutions Corporation (SES) team that was
recently selected by NSA as a prime contractor to participate
in its Small Business Set-Aside Program (NSETS). NSA conducts
small business competition with the NSETS program participants
to obtain assistance in a broad range of services to satisfy
Agency needs in business, engineering, information technology,
operations support, and training.

October 4, 2002 - Next Century Delivers
PowerTrack™ System to Haverfield
Today, Next Century delivered a state-of-the-art,
Web-based system to Haverfield
Corporation for tracking and reporting of power transmission
line problems and repairs. This new system expands upon the
capabilities of the previous DOS-based system, providing key
new features such as online customer reporting and photo access.
Using helicopters, Haverfield inspects, repairs and maintains
power lines for the utilities. "This new system is a
dramatic improvement over our previous system,' said Darryl
Ed, President of Haverfield. "It will support our growing
company in both how we are able to serve our customers and
internal tracking of data. We found Next Century to be most
professional and knowledgeable. They took the time to truly
understand our business and their feedback further enhanced
the application of the new system."

or nuclear incidents.
September 30, 2002 -- Next Century
Corporation has been Selected by the Department of the Interior's Minerals
Management Service (MMS) to Develop Its Long-range IT Strategy
Next Century will aid in the creation of
a highly competitive information technology capability for
the MMS, whose mission is to manage the mineral resources
on the outer continental shelf of the U.S. and to distribute
mineral revenues from federal and Indian lands. Next Century's
project team brings over 100 years of practical operating
IT experience in a wide array of industry and government settings.
The result of the project will include an organizational IT
structure and an IT corporate strategic plan.
